Canik has a reputation for being affordable and reliable, but it is also at the forefront of firearm design. With ever-developing features that increase comfort, accuracy, and range, they are among the most competitive pistols on the market in terms of price and performance. Today, we are taking a closer look at the Canik SFX Rival series–a line of firearms designed specifically with competition shooters in mind. See for yourself what makes the Canik Rival a sure-fire win in competition and range practice.
Currently, there are two Canik Rival models for sale by distributors: the Canik SFX Rival and the Canik SFX Rival S. Both models utilize a 9mm Luger cartridge with an 18+1 capacity and a 5” barrel. The primary difference is in the frame material. The Rival S is made with an all-steel frame, which makes it significantly heavier than the SFX’s polymer frame. The steel frame also means the Rival S comes at a slightly higher price tag-around $899 versus $679 for the synthetic SFX Rival S.
It may not surprise you to learn that the “S” in Canik Rival S stands for “steel.” Steel has several advantages over aluminum or polymer frames, including:
While it does not have the heavy steel of the Rival S, the Canik SFX Rival is certainly nothing to sneeze at. It is packed with features tailored for competitive shooters who prefer a more lightweight gun:
The Canik Rival S shares many features with the SFX Rival, but it incorporates enhancements that are suited to precision and control.
The Canik SFX Rival is available in Rival Grey with cerakote gold accents or in a sleek, all-black model called “Dark Side.” The Rival S also comes in Dark Side, or a standard all-chrome option to showcase its steel frame. Both color options can be further upgraded to accommodate MO2 optics (see below).
The MO2 (mounting optics 2) system found on the Canik SFX Rival and Rival S refers to the design that facilitates easy and secure mounting of a range of red dot optics. This feature enhances a shooter’s ability to quickly transition between targets, a critical factor in competitive shooting.

Both the Canik SFX Rival and the Glock 34 are highly regarded in the competition shooting world. However, there are noticeable differences between the two.
